It is hard to see the future. People are paid bundles of money to predict the future on Wall Street, and people likewise lose bundles of money trying to predict the future at Churchill Downs. As humans, we like to focus only on what is directly in front of us, to see the world as only what is nearby. We, as the Church, must always be about responding to the ministry to which we have been called. .

We are told that no one but God can judge, but what does that mean? Today we hear a story of a woman pestering an unjust judge, demanding he give her the justice she is owed. This judge is finally worn down and caves in, giving this woman what she asked. Yet, the story ends with Jesus juxtaposing this judge with God inviting us to wonder how God’s judgement is different.
