How can the Church address our cold-blooded reptilian overlords?

David Icke, a former British Broadcasting Corporation reporter and spokesperson for the Green Party of the United Kingdom, has an interesting theory. According to his book, The Biggest Secret, he claims to have discovered that the world is controlled by a 4th-dimensional race of reptilian-human hybrid shapeshifters whose one goal is to cause humans pain.

In 2003, Icke claimed that all American presidents, three British and two Canadian prime ministers, the English royal family, and a smattering of celebrities are all reptilian-human hybrids. He claims that these reptilian creatures came from the Draco star cluster to control our planet’s population and create negative energy and fear, the substances these reptilian aliens feed on.

He believes that they manipulate global events to create the greatest negative outcome for humans which allows them to feed off our misery. According to Icke, all of humanity’s problems would be solved if we could just get rid of our cold-blood reptilian overlords. We could put an end to the millions of people each day who do not have enough to eat, both locally and abroad. We could stop all wars and conflicts that lead to the loss of so many lives and the destruction of so many families. We could stop all illnesses, not only the Coronavirus, but also the older killers: tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and so many others.  We could end all the evils of the world if we could just cast off their vile yoke.

Which leads us to only one logical question: How are we as the church going to address the problem with our reptilian overlords?

I do not think there is a group of reptilian human hybrids that control the world. I don’t think many people other than David Icke believe in it. Yet, while the reptilian shapeshifters may not be true, the problems he thinks they cause are. People both in our community and around the world are hungry, global violent conflicts are destroying lives, and treatable diseases like tuberculosis and malaria still lead to millions of deaths each year.

Often these silly conspiracy theories become a way for people to justify why evil is still in the world. These ideas become a way for people to stop doing good work. People sit back and say, “Why would I try to fix the world’s problems if there is some group that is just going to keep it broken?” We as a church may not need to figure out a way to get rid of reptilian aliens, but we should try our best to make the world a better place in the ways that we can. Because the truth is, we can do something about hunger, pain, and suffering, but often we just don’t.
